All those weary nights, staying up late to play games can finally pay off. Yes, that’s true. Being a fervent gamer these days is much more than fun and time pass. There are many scholarships and grants for enthusiastic gamers who might be seeking for ways to afford their College and University tuition.

E-sports have been around for a long time and it seems it is entering the Collegiate environment now, where students can land E-sports scholarships and get paid to play. There are many colleges and universities that provide scholarships to gamers.

Education and ‘League of Legends’:

A total of 103 institutions of higher learning hold the Collegiate Star-league. While there are 1,000 schools that participate in the Legends High School Star-league (HSL).”

“League of Legends” developer Riot Games holds a noteworthy tournament called the North American Collegiate Championship, in which American and Canadian teams compete for the prize of $100,000 in scholarship money.

First eSports scholarship:

Robert Morris University was the first college to offer scholarships for eSports athletes. Scholarship beneficiaries had up to 50 percent of their tuition, as well as 50 percent of their room and board costs covered by the school.

In addition to establishing this scholarship program, the university was equally responsible for the creation of a Varsity League of Legends team. The purpose of this team, of course, was to engage other colleges in competition in the Collegiate Star-league.

University of California, Irvine stepping up:

In 2016, University of California, Irvine pushed the E-Sports scholarship to another level, by announcing they will be working with the creators of LoL – Riot games and build an arena with a staging area and webcasting studio. The university added that “as many as 10 academic scholarships will be offered to students on the team.”

Most popular scholarships:

With scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $24,000 and also more, some of the most popular scholarships are:

It’s not indeed universities all by themselves offering such scholarships. Many of the universities have collaborated with other institutes to offer scholarships to game enthusiased students.

Just Scholarships? Of course not, there’s more:

As mentioned before that UC, Irvine has levelled up the game, they also provide the students with all the resources to gear up their gaming skills. UC, Irvine has a dedicated game room in the college’s student section.

The game room is all equipped with latest tech, powerful gaming PCs, high end monitors and headsets accompanied by special gaming chairs.

Since then, many other universities have been inspired from this, and they too provide the gam enthusiased students with such facilities.

But what do the Universities get from this?

So you might be thinking what do such Universities get by offering such scholarships.

The answer is simplistic, exactly what they got from Football scholarships.

Universities want to promote their own E-Sports teams and want to encourage most brilliant stars of the future E-Sports.
